Like other weapons in the game, switching to a different weapon then switching back to the Minigun is another way to reload the weapon. There are also no re-load animations associated with the weapon, so when the magazine runs empty, the gun will automatically re-load itself, allowing for the player to continually fire the weapon without re-loading interruption. The Minigun is considered a "heavy" weapon in the game, so the player will not be able to sprint while wielding the weapon. In Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the player can both lock onto a target or shoot manually with the minigun. In GTA San Andreas, a feature was added to the gun, allowing the player to freely aim the weapon in any direction, but can sometimes be dangerous as if a helicopter was shot down by the weapon, the helicopter will crash and probably effect the player with its explosion. In the PC version of the game, the player can manually aim the weapon in any direction, allowing full control of the weapon. However, the weapon cannot be aimed manually, but will instead automatically aim and shoot upwards to the direction of the target, similar to that of the turret on the Rhino. In Vice City, the Minigun is a great weapon to use to mow down targets level with the player, killing most targets with one simple shot. The weapon has the fastest firing rate in all games and it can destroy most vehicles and helicopters in less than a second around a certain radius. The Grand Theft Auto: Vice City version, which is also used in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, is based on a man portable version of the M134 Minigun.
